Sunday - Church

Its was a bright Burundi morning, the cool, gentle breeze flowed through the hotel as everybody woke from their slumber. The distant sound of the morning market echoed through the hotel while I was woken by Josh's thundering farts, a standard morning so far in Burundi.

It is Sunday which means church, we were not quite sure what to expect apart from that it would be longer than an average St Mary's service.

We were all wearing our smart clothes, although Jon had forgotten his! After 30 minutes of high pitched giggling, Jon came down in Matt's white shirt and managed to spill his breakfast down it.

When we arrived we were shown to our reserved seats at the front with headsets to translate. It was extremely hot in the big tent which held thousands of people.

All the congregation danced during the songs and were very pentecostal. We were  warmly welcomed by the pastor who was celebrating the 21st anniversary of the church. Because of this it was a very lively and an up-beat celebration for the church (good timing for us to visit). The pastor was given a plot of land for his new house to be built on given by the church. Another paster renewed his voules with his wife.

Fee joined us part way through the service and we were finally a whole team!

We managed to stay for 4 1/4 hours at the church and came back to the hotel for lunch and a rest.

We are off to Gitega tomorrow afternoon for the medical centre and childrens homes.
